Looks like a new LUG is forming in London. http://ciotog.net/lolug/ Welcome, London LUGgers. Drop in to see us when you are in town.
The first, organizational, meeting of the Cambridge Linux User Group was a great success. Here are the highlights for those of you who were unable to attend in person.
Seven members were in attendance to contribute to the discussion.
Our host, Gary, has provided a wonderful, comfortable, meeting location for us.
Meeting dates will be the third Monday of each month to complement the existing first Monday meetings of KWLUG.
This is a presentation topic proposal.
Linux will do many things, "Auto-magically." This presentation discusses the different methods of making things happen automatically in Linux so that it works like magic.
Topics to be covered will include:
A) Per computer magic
1) inittab
2) init.d scripts
3) ???
B) Magic for a specific user
1) ~/.bash_profile
2) ~/.bashrc
3) ~/.profile
C) Magic for every user
1) /etc/profile
If there is enough interest in this topic we'll need to flesh out the presentation and find a presenter for it.
If you've looked at our map or our detailed map then you might have wondered where the maps came from. They were created with http://www.openstreetmap.org/ the Wiki-style map of everything.
OSM maps are great in a lot of ways because you are allowed to use them as long as you credit the source. You can also update the OSM maps so they have the information that is important to you.
MythTV is a collection of Linux programs that create a media center. It allows you collect all of your important media (movies, TV, music, family photos, CambridgeLUG presentations) and makes them available to all of the media devices on your network.
This introduction to MythTV will demonstrate the features of a media center and several common uses. A discussion will include Planning, Hardware selection, Installation, Configuration, and Lessons Learned.
This is a sample topic suggestion. A volunteer to present this topic is welcome.
The members of CambridgeLUG present topics at our meetings that are of interest to attendees. Those topics range from introductions to concepts to intermediate skills development to deeply technical coverage of advanced topics. Read the rest of this post to learn how to submit your own presentation topic suggestions and requests.
